The Rebuild Begins

Well, after thinking about what to do about my bike... I've decided to fix her up. I thought about it and the only thing that's keeping the bike from running is an alignment of the forks, a completely new front end, new levers and new rearsets. The frame, forks, engine, transmission, and exhaust are all fine. Of those major components, only the exhaust and the engine covers took some minor cosmetic damage.

It's going to cost me $1400 of my insurance check to keep the bike and probably another $1000 to $1500 to repair the bike. Even at $1500... there's no bike out there I could buy that would only cost me $1500 out-of-pocket. Plus, I really loved that bike.  The look, the color, the ride.  I don't want to part with it!  The insurance going to give me a check for more than $2000 more than what I paid for the bike so it won't even really hurt that much.  It will be a salvage title until it's inspected by the NYSDMV, and then it will get a rebuilt title.  Honestly I don't care if the title is a rebuilt title... Once I got this bike I wasn't looking to sell it 6 months later.  I loved this bike and I wanted to keep it.  So salvage, rebuilt, or whatever... as long as it's up and running than I am a happy camper.

The shittiest part is my girlfriend and I broke up which means I have to move out of HER friggin apartment. This means that I won't be able to get all new plastics for it until next season...  On eBay I've only seen about 4-5 variations.  A black/black, a red/black, a black/red flames and two MotoGP racing replicas.  The first is a Fiat replica which would go pretty nicely on my bike mostly because the tank is blue and wouldn't need repainting.  It would look like this when it was all said and done

The last one would be a black/black with a white mid-section and a bunch of decals from different companies.  It is a little more subtle but I would have to have my blue tank repainted black... which doesn't bother me because the only way the tank WON'T be repainted is if I replace all the plastics with the original ones (good luck finding those brand new) or to use the above set of plastics which incorporates the Team Yamaha Blue color.

The worst part about all of this is that it's something that MIGHT happen during the off-season or maybe as late as March... mostly because I'm going to have to spend about $400 to move as well as a new security deposit, possible broker's fee and higher rent. All that money I made from the insurance company is gonna get spent on getting a new place. So for now, the bike will be ride-able but the body will look like shit. The front will be nice and brand new but the upper and lower fairings on each side are scratched to hell.

Luckily, from far away you shouldn't be able to tell too much (even though I will know which is more than enough to make me feel pissed about riding a damaged bike!)
